I recently purchased several watercolor scrolls from a dealer who specializes in Asian antiquities. This piece depicts a Japanese woman collecting what I imagine to be medicinal – she is so calming and ethereal. The painting is done on traditional rice paper with a threaded mesh backing still intact. The frame uses a stacking technique, featuring an inner red and gold frame and an outer distressed pounded gold frame. Under glass.
