I recently purchased several watercolor scrolls from a dealer who specializes in Asian antiquities. This piece depicts a warrior mounted on his horse in the foreground of a simple landscape setting. The painting is done on traditional rice paper with a threaded mesh backing still intact. The palette is soft with mossy greens, pale orange and black. I have paired it with a wood textured background in a deep charcoal. The frame uses a stacking technique, featuring an inner burnished gold frame and the outer distressed gold bamboo frame.
