JAN C. TER WEELE
1938-2022
Jan's lifelong journey through education and art shaped his vibrant, expressive style. As a former educator and administrator, he led school districts across New England and abroad, eventually serving as Deputy Director of Economic and Community Development in Maine.
Painting was his enduring parallel passion, honed through studies at institutions like the Maine College of Art and the Art Students League of New York under mentors such as John Hultberg and Cornelia Foss.
In his Portland Maine studio, Jan’s work combined the bold colors of French Fauvism with influences from the contemporary Dutch school, creating joyful abstractions that bring warmth and vitality to art collections across country and beyond.
