Karen S. Lupton
Growing up in Mobile, Alabama my artistic journey began with my love for drawing in my elementary school and continued with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Louisiana State University. Upon graduation I first worked as a graphic designer at Herndon Arts then as an art director for Cargill, Wilson and Acree of Atlanta as well as other advertising agencies in Mobile and Atlanta. During this time I met my husband, George and we moved to his hometown of Lynchburg,VA. I split my time between raising a family and freelancing.
When we became empty nesters, I returned to painting. I find inspiration in the everyday scenes with a particular focus on walkways, roads and landscapes that invite viewers to contemplate the journey that lies ahead. For me, these scenes symbolize not only the comfort and familiarity of the present but also the promise of new beginnings and adventures yet to come in this new chapter of life.
I use white pine frames handcrafted by Dr. Dan C. Pullen of Hillsborough, New Jersey. He is a dentist, volunteer firefighter, woodworker, and photographer. I love the way the soft tones of white washed wood contrast with my vibrant palette.
