LYNN COTHERN

Roanoke, Va.

EXPRESSIVE, ABSTRACT, COLORFUL

Lynn works in oil, gouache, and acrylic in the studio and outdoors. She studied art and bookbinding at the Corcoran School of Art, Pyramid Atlantic, Penland School of Craft, Paper and Book Intensive, and the Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia. Her first degree was a B.A. in fine arts with an emphasis in painting and drawing.

"I paint landscapes; I like seeing into the distance and arranging the shapes. I pull atmosphere, color, and design from the landscape, even if it is withholding its promise. I layer paint, scrape, build up texture, draw into the paint. My hope is that the painting will speak to the story, experience, and heart of those who sit with it."
