From the estate of the late Jan ter Weele
Jan ter Weele studied at the Maine College of Art, the Massachusetts College of Art, Honolulu Academy of Arts, and the Art Students League of New York with John Hultberg, Peter Golfinopoulos, and Cornelia Foss.
Upon his retirement as an educator, he opened a studio in Portland Maine and painted
full time. Soon he became renowned as one of Maine’s coterie of artists. His joyful paintings, a combination of French Fauvists and contemporary Dutch school, began to light up homes across Maine and Massachusetts with the vibrant colors which became his hallmark.
