Vintage Madonna Hand Painted Glassware

This is a fine example of reverse painting, whereby the artists paints a backward reflection of the image on the back of glass.  This particular piece is from Guadalajara and features Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos.  She shown in her robe of white and blue and her crown is in the Byzantine style. Two silver angels hold a banner inscribed in Latin “Immaculate Mother pray for us”. Know as the patroness of journeys she became associated for the apparent miracle in the year 1632 when it was believed she returned a dead child back to life
