This a 1890 chromolithograph. Chromolithography first became successful in the 19th century. While this process was the beginning of colored prints, hand colouring still remained an important part of the process.  Early pieces such as this one involved the use of multiple stones, one for each color.  The process could take up to a month to produce one piece if there were many colors involved.

This piece has been pressed between archival glass and framed in vintage, gold and black hand painted frames sourced by gallery owner, Amy Davis.
