REALISM, FORM, COLOR MIXING

Sharon approaches painting as both a physical and meditative act, from the tactile experience of applying paint to the canvas, to the endless possibilities of color mixing. Working primarily with acrylics and oils,  she sees her paintings as a rumination on the world, an attempt to understand its form and way of being, whether it is a curl of water, the curve of a hand, or the way light shines through glass. This process consists of a series of choices, from what aspects to include or ignore, to what can be exaggerated or minimized, both in terms of color and form. Sharon often begins with only the barest hints of a sketch, always anxious, in the best possible way, to start painting. But that hint of a sketch is the beginning of an ever-evolving conversation between herself, the canvas, the paint, and the world around her.

"My series of marble paintings reflects my studious, meditative approach to painting. Sparked by the discovery of my late mother's marble collection, these paintings of small, playful things become complex and varied subjects, simultaneously joyful, nostalgic, and flawed. Endlessly varied, the marbles change dramatically as they move and interact with light, revealing different layers of complex objects that are as varied as snowflakes."
